Random Thought : Anxiety Attack

"Anxiety is a common emotion when dealing with daily stresses and problems. But when these emotions are persistent, excessive and irrational, and affect a person’s ability to function, anxiety becomes a disorder. There are different types of anxiety disorders, including phobias, panic and stress disorders, and obsessive compulsive disorder."

I had two attacks in two weeks and it was worst the last time. I really wish I had more control over my mind and brain. Its hard for me, but I know its harder to my husband. He was so shocked and confused when he saw me had an attack last week. He cant even sleep properly until morning the next day. I know he doesn't really understand what was going on, what was i thinking and how to deal with it when it happen again. But we rarely talk about it after that.

I had a depression, a MDD. Diagnosed by a psychiatrist at PPUM. I had few sessions of treatments, almost warded and the best part or should i say worst part is I deal with everything alone. Without my husband or my family knowing any of this.

How to deal with anxiety attack if you or anyone around your are experiencing the same? I really hope this article will help.

First of all, you have to acknowledge the fact that you are stress and need help. You need to inform someone you trust, anyone who are close to you that you in that condition. Ask them to come with you when you do treatments and follow ups so they will understand you better.

Secondly, pour out your feelings. If you don't have anyone you trust, you can always write in down in a diary or journal. Write down what irritate you the most, what makes you feels down or any argument happen on that day, your meal of the day, your schedule and also your daily routine. It is kind of therapy and easier for you to track down what trigger your anxiety attack.

Thirdly, change your routine once in a while. Take some time off your daily activities and spend it on yourselves. It doesn't need anything fancy or luxury. Maybe a movie on Netflix with a bowl of popcorn or chocolate ice cream. Or a bubble bath in bath tub with aromatherapy candles. A cup of full aroma hazelnut latte and favorite author novel. (Yes this is my kind of me-time). Or your can visit a spa, meni-pedi, or reflexology massage if you have extra budget.

Fourthly, do your favorite kind of exercise. It can be yoga, pilates or even zumba. Go for a walk. Make yourself move from one spot to another. Window shopping might helps too. It doesn't really matter as long as you are moving your feet. Running, jogging and brisk walk helps too especially in outdoor parks.

But the most important thing when it happen, you really need to take a deep breath slowly. Because when anxiety attack, it will make your heart beating faster than normal. Try to breath in for 4 seconds, and breath out for 4 seconds in 5 minutes. The breathing will helps your heart calmer. Or if you learn yoga, you will know the 4-7-8 breathing technique.

Lastly, make sure your record all the attacks in your diary or journal and let your psychiatrist know when you visit them for treatments. Keeping a record makes it easier to detect any improvement or getting worst.

I really hope that this will helps anyone who have the same situation as me out there. I understand the feelings, the emotion and the situation. And I am keeping this here so I can read and remind myself how to deal with it. Thank you for reading!
